Fontanesi, DDSWisdom teeth, also referred to as the . When any of these conditions arise, your dentist may determine that extraction is necessary. Wisdom Teeth Removal. Removal is a fairly common oral surgery, however the procedure is complicated if wisdom teeth have not yet erupted. Some general dentists have the skill required to remove impacted or un- erupted wisdom teeth, though most people require the services of an oral surgeon. In fact, many patients prefer to be heavily sedated for the procedure. Yet, the decision to extract is your dentist's. Extraction Recovery. Recovery takes approximately five to seven days, with the gum area being fully healed in approximately three to four weeks. If the jaw is damaged during extraction, full recovery may take up to six months. Once you have undergone the surgical extraction procedure, there are several steps to take to ensure proper healing and recovery from the procedure. During the first 2. If heavy bleeding occurs for an extended time, contact your oral surgeon or dentist. Stitches may be used during your procedure if the wisdom tooth is impacted and must be removed from under the surface of the gum line. If the stitches are not self- dissolving, they will need to be removed postoperatively. Your dental surgeon will discuss with you whether or not you need to return to the dental office to have them removed. Facial swelling also is expected after extraction. Ice should be applied for 1. Your dental surgeon may prescribe prescription pain relievers, if necessary. Antibiotics also may be prescribed prior to the procedure to clear any infections of the tissue surrounding the wisdom teeth. After extraction, it is important to continue taking the medication to prevent any further or additional infection. Aftercare. Post- extraction, it also is necessary to maintain proper oral hygiene, as well as follow these recommendations: Do not rinse your mouth for the first 2. Stick to a soft or liquid diet (milk, ice cream, mashed potatoes, pudding) the day of and the day after a tooth extraction, gradually progressing to eating other easy- to- chew foods. Chew with teeth that are far from the extraction site. Brush and floss the other teeth as usual, but avoid the teeth and gum next to the extraction socket. After the first 2. Repeat this process for at least five days following extraction. How Much Does Wisdom Teeth Removal Cost? The cost of wisdom tooth extraction depends on a number of factors, including: The experience of the dentist. The location of the dentist. The type of dental insurance you have. The extent of the procedure. Wisdom teeth removal can range in price from $1. This cost range does not include fees associated with sedation, X- rays, possible oral surgery necessities, or the proximity of the wisdom tooth to surrounding teeth and nerves. Extraction costs for impacted wisdom teeth are significantly higher than for erupted wisdom teeth. Depending on the type of dental insurance you have, insurance companies may provide a 1. If impacted wisdom teeth are not extracted, the following may occur: Teeth Shifting: Impacted wisdom teeth may shift surrounding teeth, causing bite irregularities and pain. Bone Loss and Jaw Expansion: Impacted wisdom teeth may play a role in bone loss and expansion of the jaw. Congestion: Wisdom teeth may contribute to sinus congestion and headaches. Cysts and Tumors: Impacted wisdom teeth may be a factor in the development of bone destroying tumors or cysts, including cyst formation in the surrounding gum tissue. Gum Tissue Irritation: Gum tissue surrounding impacted wisdom teeth tends to be more susceptible to gum irritation. If wisdom teeth do not fully erupt and become crooked, it may become difficult to adequately clean the gums. Periodontal Pockets, Cavities and Bone Loss: Difficulty cleaning gums makes it easy for debris to be lodged, creating the perfect setting for bacteria. The resulting bacteria may produce periodontal pockets, create cavities and lead to bone loss. Changes in Orthodontia and Dentures: For children, wisdom teeth may adversely affect the results of orthodontia. For the elderly, wisdom teeth may undermine the functionality of dentures. Dry Socket. Dry socket is caused by improper formation or premature loss of the blood clot in the extraction site; it can be quite painful and results in delayed recovery. To prevent dry socket, avoid smoking cigarettes and using straws for as long as possible after extraction. For example, they can provide support for a dental bridge, or fill in the space left by a missing molar. Furthermore, some scientists believe that wisdom teeth may serve as a future stem- cell source for the development of new teeth. To Extract or Not to Extract? Dentists previously determined whether to remove wisdom teeth using the only diagnostic tool they had at their disposal: a dental examination. Dentists may use one or more dental technologies during a dental examination to diagnose the necessity for a wisdom tooth extraction (such as panoramic and digital X- rays). These technologies can help determine candicacy for extraction and the best means to approach the procedure. They are also used to help identify additional risks that may impact your dentist's approach to the procedure, such as the anatomical features of the tooth and surrounding structures. The complication risks associated with extraction for people over 3. People over 5. 0 faced with extraction are at a greater risk of complications because the bone fuses to the teeth as we age. There is also a risk of numbness in the extraction area. Ultimately, if you wait to remove wisdom teeth until there is cause for medical concern, the risk for all complications increases. Today, dentists often recommend removing potentially problematic wisdom teeth by age 1. Blind. Cool. Tech. Archive. Blind. Cool. Tech Archive Page. Blind. Cool. Who knew? You Don't Drink Enough Water. We've all heard how important H2. O is when it comes to shedding pounds. It helps to suppress appetite, so you're less likely to overeat. But that's not all: When you're dehydrated, your kidneys can't function properly, so the body turns to the liver for additional support. Because the liver is working so hard, more of the fat you consume is stored rather than burned off. What surprised me most, though, is that if you're upping your fiber intake but not also hitting the bottle hard, things tend to get a wee bit, er, backed up. Otherwise, instead of helping with digestion, fiber may actually lead to constipation. I often consume nearly double the recommended 2. Gulp. Just how much water should I be drinking? So the eight- cups- a- day rule applies only to sedentary women who weigh 1. That amount of liquid — for me, 1. I fill up with about a liter at each meal, and I'm a peeing machine. You Skimp on Protein. Several studies show that high- protein diets result in more pounds shed, at least initially. Protein enhances the feeling of satiety and prevents your losing muscle as you lose fat. You also have dietary thermogenesis, which is the energy you burn to process and use the food you eat, on your side. To accomplish that, I have Greek yogurt (1. I eat a few ounces of lean poultry (2. I snack on a handful of raw almonds (6 grams). As a result, I feel fuller — sometimes so full I don't even sneak a bite of my son's ice cream (the way I used to whether I was hungry or not) — so it's easier to keep daily calories in check. More Reasons Why You're Not Losing Weight. You Sit at a Desk All Day. I log a solid hour of exercise almost every day, but outside of that, my time is mostly spent sitting in front of a computer. Much to my dismay, research finds that dedicated workouts simply can't compensate for being sedentary the rest of the time. According to one University of Missouri- Columbia study, sitting for just a few hours causes your body to stop making a fat- inhibiting enzyme called lipase. Getting up and walking for just two minutes during each of those hours burns an additional 5. University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee. Experts recommend setting a timer on the computer to remind you to move every hour, but what's helped me is the Fitbit One ($1. I keep this activity tracker clipped to my bra 2. I won't go to bed until I've logged 1. To accomplish that, I heed some of those recommendations we've all heard a million times (. I even jog in place while brushing my teeth and watching TV. At first my husband and son laughed their skinny little butts off at me, but now seeing me hopping around the living room strikes them as normal. Walks are part of my family's evening routine, and . Move- more mission: accomplished. Your Numbers Are Off. I've always considered myself a math whiz, so I assumed that I had the whole calories- in, calories- out formula down pat. Here's how I determined how many I should eat a day: I got my basal metabolic rate (BMR, or the amount of calories I need to maintain my weight) using the online calculator at fitnessmagazine. I entered . That gave me about 2,4. Then I added whatever calories I burn during my workouts (usually about 5. That meant I could eat almost 3,0. Sure, it seemed high, but I had used a calculator. It had to be right! Not so fast, Coulter says. Math club membership revoked! All this time I had thought my daily needs were 5. No wonder I'd been maintaining instead of losing. Get Your BMRYou Work Out Regularly. I know, I know. How can an exercise routine make you gain? For starters, people tend to eat more when they work out, either because they feel they've earned it or because they're overestimating how much they've burned — or both. Olson, Ph. D, a FITNESS advisory board member and professor of exercise science at Auburn University at Montgomery in Alabama. It's a good thing. So I'll take Olson's advice and stay active, well- hydrated.. You're a Stress Case. I'm a lot like the lab rats — and humans — who turn to comfort food and pack on pounds when they're under duress. I can practically feel my belly expanding every time I have a meltdown over something, including my weight- loss efforts. Luckily, a lot of the things I'm doing to whittle my middle should also ease my angst. Smith notes. I've increased my water and protein intake, I move more throughout the day, and I'm trying to stress less. But one of the best things I've done has been — go figure — not weighing myself, at least for a little while, as Olson suggested. I was tempted in the beginning, but I stuck to my scale embargo for a month. Now I weigh in weekly, but the fluctuations don't bother me. Because I know I'm creating a daily calorie deficit, and I've found other ways to measure my progress (see . I know the fat is coming off, no matter what the scale says. I feel enlightened — in more ways than one. Beyond the Numbers. When the scale bums you out, here are three other ways to gauge your progress. How do your clothes fit? Try on the same pair of jeans and shirt every six to eight weeks. How do you feel? You should have more energy, sleep better, and feel less stressed. How much can you do? Keep a workout log and track how much weight you can lift and how many miles you can walk or run. Originally published in FITNESS magazine, May 2. Dehydration Symptoms and causes - Mayo Clinic. Symptoms. Thirst isn't always a reliable early indicator of the body's need for water. Many people, particularly older adults, don't feel thirsty until they're already dehydrated. That's why it's important to increase water intake during hot weather or when you're ill. The signs and symptoms of dehydration also may differ by age. Infant or young child. Dry mouth and tongue. No tears when crying. No wet diapers for three hours. Sunken eyes, cheeks. Sunken soft spot on top of skull. Listlessness or irritability. Adult. Extreme thirst. Less frequent urination. Dark- colored urine. Fatigue. Dizziness. Confusion. When to see a doctor. Call your family doctor if you or a loved one: Has had diarrhea for 2. Is irritable or disoriented and much sleepier or less active than usual. Can't keep down fluids. Has bloody or black stool. Causes. Sometimes dehydration occurs for simple reasons: You don't drink enough because you're sick or busy, or because you lack access to safe drinking water when you're traveling, hiking or camping. Other dehydration causes include: Diarrhea, vomiting. Severe, acute diarrhea — that is, diarrhea that comes on suddenly and violently — can cause a tremendous loss of water and electrolytes in a short amount of time. If you have vomiting along with diarrhea, you lose even more fluids and minerals. Fever. In general, the higher your fever, the more dehydrated you may become. The problem worsens if you have a fever in addition to diarrhea and vomiting. Excessive sweating. You lose water when you sweat. If you do vigorous activity and don't replace fluids as you go along, you can become dehydrated. Hot, humid weather increases the amount you sweat and the amount of fluid you lose. Increased urination. This may be due to undiagnosed or uncontrolled diabetes. Certain medications, such as diuretics and some blood pressure medications, also can lead to dehydration, generally because they cause you to urinate more. Risk factors. Anyone can become dehydrated, but certain people are at greater risk: Infants and children. The most likely group to experience severe diarrhea and vomiting, infants and children are especially vulnerable to dehydration. Having a higher surface area to volume area, they also lose a higher proportion of their fluids from a high fever or burns. Young children often can't tell you that they're thirsty, nor can they get a drink for themselves. Older adults. As you age, your body's fluid reserve becomes smaller, your ability to conserve water is reduced and your thirst sense becomes less acute. These problems are compounded by chronic illnesses such as diabetes and dementia, and by the use of certain medications. Older adults also may have mobility problems that limit their ability to obtain water for themselves. People with chronic illnesses. Having uncontrolled or untreated diabetes puts you at high risk of dehydration. Kidney disease also increases your risk, as do medications that increase urination. Even having a cold or sore throat makes you more susceptible to dehydration because you're less likely to feel like eating or drinking when you're sick. People who work or exercise outside. When it's hot and humid, your risk of dehydration and heat illness increases. That's because when the air is humid, sweat can't evaporate and cool you as quickly as it normally does, and this can lead to an increased body temperature and the need for more fluids. Complications. Dehydration can lead to serious complications, including: Heat injury. If you don't drink enough fluids when you're exercising vigorously and perspiring heavily, you may end up with a heat injury, ranging in severity from mild heat cramps to heat exhaustion or potentially life- threatening heatstroke. Urinary and kidney problems. Prolonged or repeated bouts of dehydration can cause urinary tract infections, kidney stones and even kidney failure. Seizures. Electrolytes — such as potassium and sodium — help carry electrical signals from cell to cell. If your electrolytes are out of balance, the normal electrical messages can become mixed up, which can lead to involuntary muscle contractions and sometimes to a loss of consciousness. Low blood volume shock (hypovolemic shock). This is one of the most serious, and sometimes life- threatening, complications of dehydration. It occurs when low blood volume causes a drop in blood pressure and a drop in the amount of oxygen in your body. The majority of people with gallstones have no signs or symptoms and are unaware of their gallstones. Symptoms can appear later in life, however, after many years without symptoms. Thus, over a period of five years, approximately 1. Once symptoms develop, they are likely to continue and often will worsen. Gallstones are blamed for many symptoms they do not cause. Among the symptoms gallstones do not cause are: dyspepsia (including abdominal bloating and discomfort after eating), intolerance to fatty foods, belching, and flatulence (passing gas or farting). When signs and symptoms of gallstones occur, they virtually always occur because the gallstones obstruct the bile ducts. The most common symptom of gallstones is biliary colic. Biliary colic is a very specific type of pain, occurring as the primary or only symptom in 8. Biliary colic occurs when the bile ducts (cystic, hepatic ducts or common bile duct) are suddenly blocked by a gallstone. Slowly- progressing obstruction, as from a tumor, does not cause biliary colic. Behind the obstruction, fluid accumulates and distends the ducts and gallbladder. In the case of hepatic duct or common bile duct obstruction, this is due to continued secretion of bile by the liver. In the case of cystic duct obstruction, the wall of the gallbladder secretes fluid into the gallbladder. It is the distention of the ducts or gallbladder that causes biliary colic. Characteristically, biliary colic comes on suddenly or builds rapidly to a peak over a few minutes. It is a constant pain; it does not come and go, though it may vary in intensity while it is present. IT is not cramp- like. It lasts for 1. 5 minutes to 4- 5 hours. If the pain lasts more than 4- 5 hours, it means that a complication - usually cholecystitis - has developed. The pain usually is severe, but movement does not make the pain worse. In fact, patients experiencing biliary colic often walk about or writhe (twist the body in different positions) in bed trying to find a comfortable position. Biliary colic often is accompanied by nausea. Most commonly, biliary colic is felt in the middle of the upper abdomen just below the sternum. The second most common location for pain is the right upper abdomen just below the margin of the ribs. Occasionally, the pain also may be felt in the back at the lower tip of the scapula on the right side. On rare occasions, the pain may be felt beneath the sternum and is mistaken for angina or a heart attack. An episode of biliary colic subsides gradually once the gallstone shifts within the duct so that it is no longer causing obstruction. Biliary colic is a recurring symptom. Once the first episode occurs, there are likely to be other episodes. Also, there is a pattern of recurrence for each individual, that is, in some individuals the episodes tend to remain frequent while in others they are infrequent. The majority of people who develop biliary colic do not go on to develop cholecystitis or other complications. There is a misconception that contraction of the gallbladder is what causes the obstruction of the ducts and biliary colic. Reviewed on 4/1. 8/2. References. Up. To. Research Review: The grapefruit diet - fad or science? Eat half a grapefruit before each meal and lose 1. But can it help with weight loss? A recent study looked at the age- old claim in an effort to get some answers. Introduction — Quack, quack goes the duck“Who’s that waddlin’ down the street. It’s just me ? Yes, I am! Every picture of me’s. Gotta be an aerial view. Now my doctor tells me. There’s just one thing left to do. Grapefruit Diet (Diet!)Throw out the pizza and beer. Grapefruit Diet (Diet!)Oh, get those jelly donuts out of here. Grapefruit Diet (Diet!)Might seem a little severe. Is the grapefruit diet a plan that is healthy or safe? WebMD reviews the pros and cons of this fad diet. Grapefruit Diet (Diet!)I’m gettin’ tired of my big fat rear. Blow, fatty!”– Lyrics from Wierd Al Yankovic’s Hit “The Grapefruit Diet” Lose up to 1. Quack, quack, ding, ding – that statement should set off some warning bells and let you know there is some quackery afoot. Satirized with the usual irreverence and mild cruelty by Weird Al Yankovic, fad diets will never die — not as long as we live in a world where people seek immediate gratification. Unfortunately for many vulnerable or hurried consumers, the appeal of instant results perpetuates the demand for information, products, or plans promising overnight success. The Grapefruit Diet, also known as the Hollywood Diet, or the Mayo Clinic Diet (although it’s not even remotely associated with the real Mayo Clinic), is based on the premise that grapefruit possesses near- magical powers. Proponents of the diet claim that eating half a grapefruit before meals high in protein and fat produces a metabolic reaction that transforms even the meekest office worker into a magnificent fat- burning machine. The thermogenic powers supposedly stem from a special fat- burning enzyme in grapefruit that acts as a catalyst to help your body incinerate high fat foods, which in turn results in fast weight loss. Grapefruit – a thermogenic super fruit? This is all well and good, but did you read the fine print stating that you also need to restrict your total daily calorie intake to 8. So where do the 8. You guessed it: meat, meat, and more meat. Sounds a bit reminiscent of Atkins, doesn’t it? But actually, Atkins followed the Grapefruit Diet, and not the other way around. Fad diet history lesson. Over eighty years.
The Grapefruit Diet has been around that long. Eighty years ago puts us somewhere in the 1. Pluto was discovered, the Mickey Mouse comic strip first appeared, and Hostess Twinkies were invented (1). Hmm, I wonder if the Twinkies had anything to do with it? The diet made a big resurgence in the 1. Mayo Clinic Diet.” As you can imagine, the doctors and dietitians at Mayo weren’t too happy about that. Fun factoid: The Cabbage Soup Diet makes similar weight loss claims to the Grapefruit Diet (lose 1. However, the origin of that diet isn’t as clear and there are no accompanying arguments that cabbage has special fat- burning powers. It is simply a very low calorie diet that can make you really gassy. Ewww. Science or myth? Have any clinical research studies evaluated grapefruit’s fat- burning enzyme potential? The answer to that is yes and no. Early studies did suggest that subjects on the grapefruit diet would lose weight, but this was most likely due to calorie restriction rather than any special fat- burning properties of the grapefruit itself. However, before we dismiss the claims of this diet completely, let’s take a closer look. After all, it’s possible that calorie restriction is not the only reason the diet helps people lose weight. Proponents of the diet could be in the right church but the wrong pew. Maybe they’re wrong about those magical fat- burning enzymes. But maybe grapefruit’s phytochemicals have an effect on weight loss, or maybe something in the fruit promotes satiety. Satiety and weight loss. Let’s look at satiety and weight loss first. A recent study evaluating the satiating effects of eating or drinking something low in calories before meals compared grapefruit, grapefruit juice, and water. The subjects lost weight, although not a lot. But it didn’t matter which of the pre- meal snacks they had (2). All had some small effect. However, a second study showed the opposite. Weight Loss Tips: Eat Eggs. Forget the egg and grapefruit diet, new research shows you could lose 2lb a month just by eating eggs for breakfast. The latest on how including grapefruit in your diet plan can boost weight loss. Trying to lose weight? Incorporate these healthy weight loss foods into your diet to burn more calories and shed pounds. Subjects who ate grapefruit lost more weight than those who ate a placebo (3). Makes you want to scratch your head and wonder, doesn’t it? However, overall it seems that eating any low calorie snack before a meal may help you eat less in total. Grapefruit itself isn’t the key. Grapefruit and phytochemicals. But what about grapefruit’s phytochemical content? Now we might be on to something. We know that phytochemicals (plant chemicals) are absolute superstars when it comes to decreasing our risk of contracting a host of chronic diseases. Citrus, and in particular, grapefruit, contains two of these superstars, flavonones called naringin and hesperidin. Studies conducted in mice and rats have confirmed that naringin and hesperidin act as antioxidants in the fight against free radicals, and reduce cholesterol and blood pressure. However, we can’t be as confident about these effects in humans. We’d need more studies with larger sample sizes to make that call. And at these high doses, we see even more evidence that phytochemicals lower cholesterol and blood pressure. Not only that, but in rats, wait for it. Remember, that study focused on rats who were fed a high dose of the concentrated phytochemical, not rats being served half a grapefruit before each meal. What to make of all this? Clearly more research is needed to see if the phytochemicals could be responsible for weight loss and other health benefits. Thank goodness researchers are a determined, inquisitive bunch, because this week’s research review builds on the best features of the previous studies in order to see if any clear answers to these ongoing questions can be found. Research question. This week’s research review aimed to determine if eating half a grapefruit before each meal decreases weight, blood pressure, or cholesterol levels. Dow, C. A., Going, S. B, Chow, H- H, S., Patil, B. S., Thomson, C. A. The effects of daily consumption of grapefruit on body weight, lipids, and blood pressure in healthy, overweight adults. Metabolism: Clinical and Experimental. Methods. This study used a randomized controlled design in which 7. The study timing corresponded to seasonal grapefruit crop production. The study lasted for a total of nine weeks: a three- week “washout” phase followed by a six- week diet intervention. An important note here on the study design is that it was not “blinded,” meaning that subjects knew which group they belonged to. Potentially, this could produce some bias. Keep that in mind when evaluating the results. Subjects. The researchers screened almost 3. Excluded from the study were smokers, post- menopausal women, individuals who had a co- morbidity like diabetes, high cholesterol, etc., those taking certain medications, those whose BMI (body mass index) was too high, and those whose weight was unstable. In other words, the researchers wanted “healthy” overweight individuals. During the washout diet phase, they lost a few participants, so they ended up with a total of 7. The control group included 2. Sometimes it’s more difficult to detect a significant difference in a healthy population, but based on some fancy statistical calculations, this sample size qualifies as large enough to determine meaningful differences between the control group and the test group, if any exist. Diet intervention. The first three weeks of the study was a “washout phase.” Participants followed a restricted diet to clear the body of any foods that might affect the study outcomes. Because this study was designed to determine whether or not there were active compounds in grapefruit that were responsible for potential health benefits, during the washout phase, participants were not allowed to eat any fruits or vegetables that were high in two classes of phytochemicals: polyphenols and carotenoids. Bummer – that meant no citrus, berries, spinach, carrots, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, grapes, kale, and so on. Yikes! I would have been one of those in the “discontinued trial because diet was too strict” category. After the washout, the 6- week intervention started. Both the control and the intervention group had to continue with the washout diet as their “background” diet, with the intervention group supplementing their diet with half a fresh Rio- Red grapefruit 1. How to eat a grapefruit. If you think this was self- explanatory think again. When it comes to research, attention to detail is the name of the game. Participants were given training on just how to eat said grapefruit half before each meal: peel it and eat all portions including the pith — the white part that you normally throw away. Participants were told to eat it because it contains vitamins, antioxidants and fibre. Also, they were not allowed to add sugar. Instead they used a zero- calorie sweetener. Measures. Researchers assessed a number of factors. Diet assessment – A registered dietitian collected data about the participants’ dietary intake via telephone using a method of repeat 2. The dietitian collected three recalls during the washout phase and three during the intervention phase and then averaged the reports. While dietary recalls may not provide the most accurate data, averaging a set of results rather than depending on one report alone would increase reliability. Compliance – Researchers gave participants a log book and asked them to keep a detailed record of each time they ate grapefruit during the six- week intervention. The researchers used a formula to analyze for compliance (number of grapefruit eaten before each meal/number of meals x 1. Bioactive content – To get an estimate of the amount of flavonoids in the grapefruits, the researchers took the average weight of 1. USDA Database for Flavonoid Content of Selected Foods. Anthropometry – Height, weight, waist and hip circumference and percent body fat of the participants were measured at baseline, week 6 and week 9. Weight Loss Benefits of Grapefruit Juice. The . Although fad diets are generally unhealthy and ineffective, one aspect of the grapefruit diet was on to something: Eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice, as part of a healthy lifestyle, can help you lose weight. Grapefruit juice may help to lower insulin levels, which makes it easier to keep the pounds off. A study of 1. 00 men and women by the Scripps Clinic in San Diego, California, found that participants who drank grapefruit juice three times a day lost an average of 3. Some participants lost more than 1. Researchers believe the positive weight- loss effects of grapefruit juice happen because it lowers insulin levels. Insulin is a hormone that regulates the absorption of glucose, or sugar, in the body; excess insulin in the body can cause weight gain. If you have high insulin levels and are already following a diet and exercise plan, adding grapefruit juice can help. Although juice is a more convenient way to get grapefruit into your diet, you may want to consider eating the whole fruit instead. In the Scripps Clinic study, those who ate half a grapefruit with each meal lost 0. Fruit juices in general contain a lot of sugar - - though grapefruit juice in particular isn't as sweet as other juices - - and lack the fiber found in the whole fruit, which may explain the increase in weight loss by the fruit eaters. |
